Hatchet 3 is the horror film of 2013 in the Hatchet series. It chronicles Victor Crowley's continuing adventures and his rampage through Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp. Kane Hodder stars as Victor Crowley, Brian Quinn plays Deputy Winslow and Rileah Vanderbilt is Misty.



The main strengths of the film lie in the practical effects. Unlike many modern horror movies that heavily rely on CG effects, Hatchet 3 features mostly realistic makeup effects and sets, resulting in some truly terrifying moments throughout the film.

The cast delivers a solid performance, with Kane Hodder standing out as an incredibly intimidating villain. The dialogue is reminiscent of an 1980s slasher film. It's funny and hilarious. There are also moments of humor throughout the (blog) movie that add humor to all the bloody action.

The problem is that the budget is extremely limited (reportedly $1 million), most locations in the film are reused locations from previous films in series. For instance the exact boathouse location was featured twice in the film. A lot of the locations seem like they've been reused from other films in this franchise. For those who have seen Hatchet or Hatchet 2, this could make the film appear familiar.

Overall, I enjoyed Hatchet 3 even though it felt very similar to prior entries in this series--it offered lots of bloody thrills as well as entertaining performances from its cast members.
